CAPTURING JESSICA: The Girl who Overcomes Challenges with Grace and Strength

One of the standout members of Davinda's Teen Team is Jessica, a sweet, kind, and incredibly inspiring 17-year-old who attends Southeast High School. As part of both the Dream Team and the Teen Team, Jessica’s journey has been one of personal growth, friendship, and confidence building. Through the lens of Davinda’s camera, we can see Jessica’s light shine brighter than ever before.

A Sweet Soul with a Big Heart

Jessica is the kind of person who makes an impact without even trying. She exudes warmth and kindness, and anyone who meets her feels instantly at ease. Her journey with the Teen Team started two years ago, and it’s clear that the experience has had a profound effect on her life. After taking part in the Teen Team in the previous years, Jessica returned this year as a junior on the Dream Team, where she’s become one of the key "hype girls." As a part of the Dream Team, Jessica helps to ensure that new members feel comfortable, included, and confident—just like she did when she first joined.

"I have grown exponentially in the last 2 years thanks to teen team," Jessica says, reflecting on the impact of the group. "I feel like teen team has helped me shape myself into the person I want to be."

Jessica’s personal growth has been supported by her wonderful friend group, some of whom are also Teen Team members. The friendships she’s formed through this group have become a central part of her life, and she’s quick to share how much the experience has impacted her. If anyone were to ask her about joining the Teen Team, her answer is simple: "You’re going to love getting to know all the girls, you’ll love Davinda, and it will boost your confidence so much!"

Teen Team: A Place to Grow and Thrive

The Teen Team isn't just about striking poses in front of the camera—it's a supportive community where each girl’s individuality is celebrated. Jessica stands out for her kindness, but what makes her truly shine is her ability to balance so many passions while remaining true to herself.

Jessica is not just a Teen Team member; she’s a powerhouse of talent and determination. Outside of the Teen Team, she is actively involved in several extracurricular activities, including band, swing choir, drama, and quiz bowl. Music is her passion, and it’s no surprise that swing choir is her favorite activity. "It’s always fun to be around those people to make music," she says, explaining why it’s so special to her.

Her journey with music began in 5th grade when she joined the band, and she’s never looked back. This is her second year in swing choir, her second year on the quiz bowl team, and she’s been a part of drama since her freshman year. Her dedication to these activities speaks to her incredible work ethic and love for the arts.

A Bright Future Ahead

Looking ahead, Jessica has big dreams for her future. After high school, she plans to attend college and double major in music education and preschool education. Her passion for both fields comes from her love of music and her desire to work with children. "Hopefully, five years from now, I’ll be back at Southeast teaching music or working with preschool kids," she shares, revealing her desire to give back to the community that has supported her.

Jessica’s role model in life is her mom, who has always been there for her, supporting her through thick and thin. "My mom is always at my concerts, and she’s always told me to be kind to others. I just look up to her, and someday I would want to be a parent like her," Jessica says, her eyes shining with admiration.

Overcoming Challenges with Strength and Grace

Jessica’s journey hasn’t always been easy, but she faces every challenge with grace and determination. She has battled epilepsy since she was in second grade, after being diagnosed following a series of seizures. Since then, she’s had many seizures, but she is open about her condition and is passionate about raising awareness.

"People always ask what epilepsy is, and I explain that it’s a seizure disorder," she explains, using her experiences to educate and support others. Despite the challenges, Jessica’s positivity and strength shine through, and she continues to inspire everyone around her.

The Power of Being Part of Something Bigger

Through her involvement with the Teen Team, Jessica has found not just a group of friends, but a community that has helped her grow into the person she is today. She has learned the value of confidence, kindness, and connection, and she brings these values into everything she does, from her music to her academics to her relationships.

Jessica’s story is one of growth, resilience, and the power of community. Being a part of the Teen Team has helped her realize her potential, and with the support of friends, mentors, and her family, she’s ready to take on the world—one note, one class, and one kind word at a time.

If you're considering joining the Teen Team, take it from Jessica: You won’t regret it. You'll grow, you'll gain confidence, and you'll form friendships that last a lifetime. Most importantly, you'll have the chance to be part of something bigger than yourself—a community where every girl is encouraged to shine.

Keep an eye on Jessica—because with her determination, passion, and big heart, she’s bound to make a difference in the world. Thank you, Jessica, for letting us share your story and for inspiring us all. Keep shining!
